Supporting the growing number of young people in the North West now choosing to begin their career with an Apprenticeship programme, The Skills Company, the largest provider of Apprenticeships and Traineeships in Greater Manchester, is opening a dedicated new training centre in Salford to help local young people develop their employability skills and fast track onto Apprenticeships.
Opening its doors to 16 year olds and above, the new facility offers a variety of programmes and personal development sessions, ranging from maths and English, to job interview and employability skills. The centre’s professional and qualified experts, who come from backgrounds of teaching and social work, also provide health and well-being support across a range of issues.
Training Rooms at the centre have been designed to accommodate a maximum of 15 learners at one time. This is smaller than a typical college class to ensure a personal learning environment that will cater to learners’ individual needs. Further facilities include breakout areas and meeting rooms, which are available to all learners to use for interviews or private discussions. All students have the opportunity for work experience in their chosen field before beginning an Apprenticeship.
“We’re here to prepare learners for all aspects of their adult working life”, said Conrad Seaman, the Centre Manager. “It is our aim to help everyone that comes through our doors to focus ontheir goals for the future and to gain an important advantage in the job market as they look to kick start their careers.”
The Salford Centre now joins a network of eight training centres run by The Skills Company across Greater Manchester and beyond, including Centres in St. Helens, Wigan, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside and Manchester. Described as ‘pre-Apprenticeships’, the programmes on offer are designed to equip young learners with the knowledge and experience they will need before they can begin an Apprenticeship or job. Once the programme has been completed there are a wide variety of Apprenticeships available through The Skills Company. These include opportunities in accounting, finance, engineering, construction, business and professional services, hairdressing, health and social care, manufacturing and many more.
Conrad Seaman finished: “As the government works towards its target of reaching three million Apprenticeships in the UK by 2020, it is centres such as our Salford facility that are making a meaningful contribution to help turn this from a goal into a reality, supporting young people at a pivotal point in their life in a way that stretches beyond academic study.”
